amonia Newbie Group: Members Posts: 3 Joined: Aug 10, 2010 Nikki Lee is close to Cindy Sherman, rather than to Nan Goldin. Unlike Nan Goldin’s work, which has ‘true’ personal narratives and context in visual images, Lee’s photography explores and represents various socio-cultural roles and identities. Also, Lee is present in her images like Sherman in her photographs. But what makes her distinctive is that she took a different way from Sherman’s experiments about clichéd images of femininity mostly constructed by media. Both Lee and Sherman emphasized the fluidity of identity, but Lee actually spends time with the subject group of target images, while Sherman’s role-playing seems a little more superficial and fast-paced. Both are postmodern, in terms of hyper-reality, and issues in visual identity.
